The Grangegorman Development Agency (GDA) is a statutory agency established in 2006 by the Irish Government to redevelop the former St. Brendan's Hospital grounds in Dublin city centre.
The GDA aims to create a vibrant new city quarter with a diverse mix of uses, in a way that is sensitive to the context of the Grangegorman site, its surrounding neighbourhoods and the existing community. The challenge is to plan for and implement a complex, multi-phased development that provides:
a high quality area with physical linkages to Smithfield, Phibsborough, Prussia Street and the City Centre
new arts, cultural, recreational and public spaces to serve the community and the city
a primary school, public library and children's play spaces, and
complementary mixed-use development

Wednesday 30th November, 2011 - The An Bord Pleanala Oral Hearing on the Grangegorman Project finished yesterday. The GDA would sincerely like to thank all of those who took part in the process. This is a significant milestone in the project but there is still long way to go. Government Announcement on Capital Spending and Infrastructure
Friday 11th November, 2011 - Below is a communication to all stakeholders from the Grangegorman Development Agency Chief Executive, Mr. Michael Hand.
Dear Stakeholder,
You may be aware that Minister Howlin yesterday announced the Government’s Capital Investment Programme from 2012 to 2016. Unfortunately, the higher education budget is seriously curtailed with no new third level projects to commence construction during the period. This means that the Department of Education & Skills will not have the capital funds to advance the critical Site Infrastructure and Public Realm element of the Grangegorman project.
The Minister did state however, that our project is a Government priority project and reaffirmed government support for it. Therefore, While some elements of the project have been deferred the Agency will be able to advance some PPP elements for completion in 2017. We are currently examining the best way to move forward with these.
While the news of the deferral of aspects of the project is disappointing, we still have plenty of work to do, starting with the An Bord Pleanala Oral hearing on 24th November. We look forward to working with all stakeholders into the future.
Michael Hand, CEO.
